Better Than This
I feel frustrated with my country
when I see victims treated like liars
untruthful until proven truthful
like they’re supposed to remember every detail
as they are being attacked
why is it that rapist get light sentences?
like destroying a life isn’t worth more than a couple years?
and that’s if they get sentenced at all
how’s a crime so disgusting not seen as a bigger problem?
the system is not based on equality
when it comes to a woman being attacked
then she best have Johnnie Cochran
otherwise she needs to find a way to cope
make sure you tell your young girls that one
if you’re ever attacked in a back ally
then there’s no hope for you
night, night
sorry, I’m just tired of everyone looking the other way
even worse is those who defend this injustice
rather see a 1000 woman raped
then see one man get locked away
saying “well, he said he didn’t do it”
guess that’s the best we give our women
I understand innocent until proven guilty
but we also need to give benefit of doubt to victims
they need to be taken serious
given all the support we can give
because if we don’t change our views
then I truly worry about the next generation

Wanted to write this to show I support movements like MeToo. I’ve had women I love in my life that have been victims. I’ve seen first hand how hard it is to get anyone to listen. It’s very sad. Wish things would change. Maybe one day.

It makes me want to tear up, really. I think of those I care for that have been victims.

I just had this conversation with a male friend the other day. It's a tough topic to discuss. Thanks for touching on it. Every voice matters

It is a hard topic. I’ve actually lost a few friend because I been siding with Ford on the Kavanaugh case. I think this case in itself shows how awful people are to victims. The problem I have is that this isn’t any different from any other case. A woman speaks out and unless the man admits guilt, or you get lucky enough to have lots of proof, then that woman is seen as a lying whore for the rest of her life.
It’s been hard for me to stand by my views in today’s society. Couldn’t imagine how hard it is for a victim.

Evocative. Despite my socialist leanings, I have said for years all rapists should be castrated and left to rot. I had personal experience via a dear female friend. If I ever found him, I would stick him.

I had a family member attacked when I was younger. Had to see first hand how awful the system is. I’ve had to see a few close people to me go through this. Not sure if I would go that extreme but more needs done. It’s just a sad reality for many women and some men.
