One Rope
Must we sit so comfortably, so content to watch the world burn?
Must we enjoy ourselves in our greatest time of need?
Has our justice been forever adjourned?
Have we forever buried our seed?
How do we move forward when we won’t look back?
How do we move on when we won’t open our minds?
We sign our posters and hang our golden plaques
And close our eyes to the children holding signs;
“No future. No hope. A hundred sutures. One rope.”
Trusting everyone but no one, a complex predicament
Dusting off our beliefs takes but a moment
Have we truly given up on faith?
When we abuse the gift of death
Will a ray of sun ever break through?
Will we ever embrace humanity again?
One truth to dispel a thousand lies
No true guise to fourteen billion eyes
How do we move forward when we won’t look back?
How do we move on when we won’t open our minds?
We sign our posters and hang our golden plaques
And close our eyes to the children holding signs;
“No future. No hope. A hundred sutures. One rope.”
Must we enjoy ourselves in our greatest time of need?
Has our justice been forever adjourned?
Have we forever buried our seed?
How do we move forward when we won’t look back?
