Ruthie the Dog Goes Into Therapy

Ruthie the Dog Goes Into Counseling

Amber opens, “Well, I finally get to visit you in person Ruthie. John has told me so much about you. I feel like I already know you and I must say based on what he said you must be a dog of great character whom I would trust in my very own household.”
Ruthie says, “Oh if it weren’t for all this fur I’d be blushing. John does dote on me in so many ways so I really shouldn’t complain. But there is this issue hanging over us which never seems to go away. You see I went through the most traumatic experience and overreacted for which I’ve apologized for more times than I care it remember. But now John’s family will have nothing to do with me which is shameful unto me.”
I interject, “Ruthie, just let things be. You can’t be liked by everyone. Just know that you are loved by me. Don’t I hug you and sing to you every night before bed?”
Ruthie raises her voice. “You are changing the subject which is your kinfolk’s not wishing to be in my presence which makes me want to cry if only dogs could shed tears. My nose is getting all runny now.”
Ambers offers a tissue to Ruthie. “Thank you, kind lady. Oh, I must unburden myself of my sins even though you aren’t my confessor. I did on such and such a day bite said, lad. But I was under duress! They were packing me atop a pile of luggage which jabbed into my stomach and chest causing me great pain. So I plead insanity! I was out of my mind! The guilt never leaves me, dear lady. I will have to live with remorse for the rest of my days.”
Amber says, “Come to me sweet canine. Rest your weary head in my lap. I absolve you of all guilt. John, you see dogs don’t bite just out of meanness. They bite when they are afraid. They don’t have hands to push away what they fear. So they bite. But John let me tell you for a fact. If someone were forcing me into a tight compartment piled with hard-edged luggage I would probably bite them too! And I am a human woman. If anyone dares to try this on me they will feel my teeth.”
Amber holds another tissue to Ruthie’s nose and she sneezes. Ruthie says, “Sweet angel of mercy, you have removed this albatross from around my neck. If only John’s family could ever trust me again.”
Amber pets her like a woman on a mission to bring comfort and solace to her newfound furry friend. Amber says, “You need not let these thoughts gain ground in your mind. For you have John and now me to love you. In fact one day I’d love to introduce you to my own family of dogs if John approves.”
I say, “I think I can speak for Ruthie and know I can for myself that she would be honored to meet your puppies. Ruthie, do you feel better now?”
Ruthie says, “I am the luckiest dog alive to know such caring humans as you two. Take me home John, and feed me some sweet potatoes.”
I say, “I never knew you liked vegetables.”
“Are you stereotyping dogs as beef eating carnivores? I could subsist on soy and spinach dog food if they made such a thing.”
“I doubt Walmart sells such a thing.”
Ruthie says, “Are you kidding me? I’m a high-class pup. Get my cuisine at the health food store.”
“How about you get salmon and vege food?”
“Pescatarian all the way baby! This flower child done went to dog chow heaven.”
