ABSTRACT RIFF

in the glen
the men unclip their pens
and feel the  familiar poetic yen

to write in their notebooks
about those willing women at whom they never volleyed a play
and how a thorn of regret mars the men's days

they retrieve names, certain settings, certain remarks
all to a perfect  T --
these earnest poets now didactically penned

yet who at times tear out a page to rend

because dwelling long in past times
make them prisoners
of the inconsolable rhyme
