Image for the poem pressed memories

pressed memories

I knew as soon as the sun rose on our passion
our time was slipping through the hour glass
I knew it would come to an end

inside my heart I ached
watching your funny smile
listening to your awkward jokes

I hid little pieces of you in my heart
pressed memories in my book of dreams
to keep me for the goodbye times
enough to last me forever

I thought I was prepared for your leaving
but when you left the sun followed you
our laughter still echoed in the empty rooms

pangs of regret and sadness moved in
they took over the bedroom where we lie
whispering our hopes for the future
when you walked into yours I was left in the past

with my pressed memories
and little pieces of you I kept
to sustain me
