Bear Trap

Snared in a bear trap
Foot twisted unnaturally
Hands frantically pull at the jaws
A twig snaps as a predator circles
The pray wails in pain and aguish

The pray reaches for their bag
And rummages around
The predator watches curiously
Out of the bag comes a pocket knife

The pray rips a piece of their shirt off
They place the torn rag in their mouth
The pocket knife is flipped open
Glimmering in the moon light

The pray hacks at their ankle
Letting out muffled screams
Tears stream and sweat pools
As the prey slices through layers of flesh

Blood sprays everywhere
As the knife hits the bone
The blood lubricates the trap
And pray tears their foot out

The trap rips off the outer layer of flesh
Like removing a skin sock
Revealing the bone underneath
The pray struggles to stand

The pray hobbles away
Leaving blood smears
The predator moves toward the trap
And starts to devour the ensnared flesh

The prey hears chewing and tearing
As they try to hop to safety
The predator finishes the meal
But his belly isn’t full yet

The prey comes to a cave
And under the shelter takes a seat
The predator sniffs at the trail of blood
And hunts for fresher meat
