Distant as some other life that never has been,  
With that everlasting girlfriend of yours,
Showing no other pieces of your life, but those with her.  

Looks great! I'm almost happy for you.  
Happy as I may be in a case like that,  
Doubtful if anything between us was real,  
If your gaze ever did catch my gaze...  
 
Did our shoulders ever slightly touch  
When we walked each in our own direction?  
Did we ever exchange a word and a smile  
And the seeds of forever left dormant affection?  
 
Did I really lose my appetite  
Seated there so close to you?  
Did I wish to talk all night  
To take away as much as I could about you?  
 
Was it you?  
Was it me?  
Or some shadows of those who we could never be?  
Sweet hopeful shadow of never possible me,  
And the mysterious you the world will never see...  
 
Fading away day by day...  
Getting dusted with new emotions and encounters  
Those long gone us might as well never have been...  
Or might they not?  
Making us those smiling humans
