Cool Summer Night
It was not out of the kindness of my heart
For I do not want us to remain apart
The truth be told, I asked no one else
I wanted you and you alone
I wanted no one else
A ride with you was worth admission through the door
Your being there was more than I dared hope for
Do you know how good you've made me feel?
If I was a passionate thief
Your heart is all I'd steal
I owe you more than I could ever give you
For a wonderful night and a dream come true
No other one would have been the same
Rejection was not in the air
I'm happy that you came

Thanks for commenting La. Interesting take on that. I've always felt this poem needed another verse. It's about going to a concert with a girl I really liked. We had missed out on a couple of other concerts that I bought tickets for, but crazy things happened and we never got to go. A lot lead up to that night and I was facing strike 3 with 2 outs in the bottom of the 9th... How's that for cliche? jj
