The Tall Grass

The Tall Grass

I walked among the tall grass just to clear my head

I walked with the living who lived like they were dead

The sunshine fell upon me like sheets of endless rain

It precipitated my joy with convoluted pleasures of pain

The fire burned me with excruciating heat of each grass stalk

I met ancient ghost of memories along my solemn walk

They tortured my future with talk of my long ago past

As I took my psychic stroll among the tall grass

Expressionless faces approached me one by one

Faces that I remembered from before I was born

They whispered echo's of dark secrets from long ago

Time had forgotten and pushed deep down below

Unrestrained essence of peace flowed over my soul

It reached under my bridge and killed my gruesome troll

As the red river flowed slowly out of my hidden pain

The tall grass choked off all of the lucidity that remained

As my walk among the tall grass came to its blissful end

I dreamed of a peacefulness that I hope would soon begin
