Pet

Come here,
kitten.

Lay your head
down slow and
sleep fast. Let me
take you there. Let
the dark and its
tendrils blacken your
eyes and
wring you like a
tourniquet. You're
not one for
shyness, are
you, little one? No
fear of me. Take
life as it comes. The
curtains move even
when the glass is
shut. Further
down you fall, and
closer the
shadow in the
corner lurks. You
hold your
breath in your
dreams.

Come here,
kitten.

Author's Note
Sinister with a touch of erotic ownership. As someone who has been severely nyctophobic my entire life, I imagine this is what happens to people who sleep with the lights off.

Picture is "Incubus" by Charles Walker (1870).
