...BUT NOT FOR ME
It is all for you
The bore-hole
Dug straight through me
From my tired eyes
To my aching side
A loaned happiness
In time of turmoil
With rust under my fingernails
And blood on the tips
You stole all of my darkness
With those parted lips
So I asked myself 'why?'
'Why does the sea subside?'
A forgotten vow
Pulled into the tides
And for what else does the salt avail
Than my wounded flesh?
For I am nought but skin and bone
And you, the surfaced abalone
The water becomes black
And my awareness is diluted
As I gaze toward the shoreline
That I hadn't realized I'd left
I turn around
The sun is dimmed
Curvature of the earth
That I gave to you
In your flat reality
Past the boundary of what is blue
Into the darkest of night
Beyond each of my sunsets
Is the bright morning
And the silent breeze
That I've always desired
...but not for me
It is all for you
'And those wings I cast aside
I still carry them in my shadow
A secret face within my torment
Saved for a millionth of a chance'
