Collide

We drove together
for the first time in a while
we laughed
and couldn't find the candle store
we saw a cat and I was scared I was going to run it over
it just stared at us
and you were convinced it was meant to be your familiar
since you're into all that witchcraft now;

I remembered I'm quite bad at driving
and we almost died when I pulled out onto the road after taking pictures of you
we both screamed
and you asked why I had done it
and I wondered the same

we drove on
singing along to so many songs
in and out of shops without anything we were looking for
but I realized how much I had missed being like this with you
how much I wanted to protect you
and always will

you're growing up
and so am I
but sometimes
I'm really proud of the person you've become
and I wish you wouldn't disappear so much

I lit the candles we made
and thought of him
