Apocalypse part 3
3:00pm
he looks around for a place to unpack;
he notices a fish market ahead;
as he enters; no soul in sight....
the sky told him to rest his head here tonight;
he unpacks; he looks around for any valuable snacks;
he finds a jar of pickles; and a can of kipper;
some mustard, crackers and some beer in the fridge....
he eats a bit before he lays his head;
he later gasps awake to staring eyes....
a young woman stood eating some of his left overs:
he asks her," who are you?"
she responds," call me rouge"
he introduces himself;
"call me Journey", he says;
they both laughed....
he continues, "I've found a letter that I'm sure belongs to you"
he hands it over to her as she stares at him;
she reads the note, and looks at him;
he asked her," who was it to?"
she says, it's old news along with other things "lost in the fire"
she continues," it's a note I never had the chance to send....
when all hell broke lose; when the great catastrophe began;
" as I was walking, I just crumbled it down to what I had left,
figured it would blow in the wind;
his name was Jim; an old friend that shared memories that could never be brought to life again....
a long pause....
" I'm sorry", he says;
"how long has it been?"
she estimated about 9 months since,
the tragedy began;
he was badly wounded, by a stranger who robbed him;
lost too much blood, before he met his end;
she wiped her eyes, and said," he was kind and genuine...."
" I've slept here mourning him here days on end"
they hugged;
she asked, " where had you plan on going?"
he responded," I haven't a clue;
but I have to say, you have a pleasant demeanor about you";
" you don't have to walk alone", she says;
" we can leave together tomorrow...."
