I think that it’s better I put up some walls,
My heart needs a bit of protection.
For your words they do melt me, perhaps give me false hope.
And I fear they will just lead to rejection.

I’d crumble if you decided to go,
Cut off connection and not see me again.
It’s fragile this bond that we’ve built over years.
As well as great joy I am scared of its pain.

If I were certain you’d not run away,
I’d tell you the truth that my heart wants to say.
Until that moment, that is... if it comes,
I’ll adore from a distance hoping love finds a way.
