Lion and Rabbit
These monsters in our head are real.
People say they are fake,
But they aren’t fake to the people who have to suffer through them,
Who have to feel their claws dig into them,
Their blood-stained teeth ripping through our skin and muscle.
We have to hide from these predators,
These lions,
And we are the rabbit,
Defenseless,
Helpless.
We have to wait at night at the predators stalk their prey,
Waiting to make the blood pour from our bodies,
And make us screech out in pain,
Our insides spilling out,
Our hopes and dreams crushed because this lion chose us.
We may never eat some new grass or leaves
We may never grow our family,
Extend the population.
This lion chose our fate,
And we have no control over it.
