Butterfly
I once knew this young girl, so pale and fragile, who would walk around with a beautiful broken smile. I saw her shake as she held the hand of another human being, so battered and sore she didn't really know who to trust anymore. This little girl, continued to fight on, through the chaos and despair, and even on the days when she felt it was too much to bare, somehow she smiled and simply said 'everything will be okay in the end'. As this little girl grew older, life was still a battle, she still pretended to smile when inside she was broken, her real pain unspoken.
But she tired on, through the pain, the challenges she often faced, and with great grace still remained a trustworthy soul, who without question would help anyone with every problem whether big or small. Sometimes this little girl, would be a fool, simply make mistakes that put her life at stake, hurt herself for a feeling of escaping reality but she always came back to where she belonged, being a warrior and soldiering on. Sometimes she got lost for many a day, and people she loved would ring her and say, Megan please don't live your life this way, but the little girl, always knew underneath the behaviours, she was more than just an addict, and more than her flaws. She was no longer an object, or someone who was being ignored. As she grew, she knew she needed to learn to trust, this time she held the hands of those who she really knew would walk side by side with her, through thick and thin, she knew she was able to feel love again. As she grew she knew she didn't need to hide the fear, she could face the tears, bin the beers and learn to love herself again. One day she knew everything was going to be OK, so she looked down at her scars, and gently gave them a kiss, and said I won't hurt my beautiful body anymore, because I Megan, am no longer the abused kid who never had a voice, I am free to be whoever I want to be, to embrace the world with my own level of self security, I am a beautiful butterfly flying high, with the world at my feet, and that's because of people like you who made that little girl, come alive again. Even when we are apart, I know I will always have you all in my heart.
