Moment of Death

There's a tap-tap-tapping at my window
and I know
it's not the wind
Is it the way I feel today
when you're blowing through my mind
The letters that I sent you
were all returned unread
all those goodbyes without reason
choked words we never said

Just before we die
maybe we'll finally understand
everything that happens
throughout our lives
by which time it's too late anyway
until the next life
if there is one

And if there is
I'd like to see you again
maybe catch up a little
it doesn't seem like a big deal
so there doesn't have to be
a storm blowing in
before all those memories
start making sense

I generally find
there's nothing bad outside
and that usually it's inside
where the trouble starts
right up until
that moment of death
