Sleep

Sleepy sorrow speaks again -
Almost angelically.
Eagerly I await it's graceful return to my life.
Restful,
Peaceful,
Somber and silent.
Is this a dream?
Or have I merely awaken from a nightmare?
Only time will tell this tale.
As I listen to the tic of the clock -
Tic-toc, tic-toc.
I stare and I stir,
I stir and I stare.
Tic-toc, tic-toc.
I Inhale once, and at the bottom of my breath - tic-toc, tic-toc.
I exhale to complete the motion
and at the top of my breath - tic-toc. "STOP!"
My mind screams in silent agony
as the thoughts and memories of the day sore by
with disquieting knowledge.
I catch every two or three,
mingle with them for a moment
then let them go, only to move on to the next.  
As sure as my breath, they keep coming and coming.
As sure as the sun will rise, (all too soon) and set.
An endless cycle of gibberish and truth, gibberish and truth
blended together to create this cocktail of insomnia.
"Did I Pay the bills?"
"Did I remember my math assignment?"
"God that girl in the second row is cute."
" NO you have to sleep!"
"Have to" has become a serious understatement.
" I Need to sleep."
"I need to sleep now!!!!"
And then it hits me.
That first sign of confusion,
that first sense of disorientation
washes over me like bliss.
The warmth flushes over me
like I've been living in an ice age my whole life.
It's that familiar feeling of letting go
and the unfamiliar feeling of being lost in plain sight.
They become twisted and intertwined,
weaving and waving, weaving and waving.
The sweet, elegant embrace of your sheets
reminds you of being a child again
laying in your mothers arms.
And then you forget.
Everything goes dark.
So dark.
And that sweet silence sweeps you away.
Tic-toc, tic-toc goes the clock.
