The Love Affair of Tad and Elizabeth/ Day 24--A Brief Idyll
DAY 24--WELLTON, ARIZONA / A BRIEF IDYLL
Every person and every thing has an aura, Tad was thinking as he sat on the edge of the bed reading kayak brochures in the Desert Motel, in this small town which breathed of Jill's aura: a population of little over 2500, conservative, staid, never daring to question beyond itself .Suddenly it crossed his mind that
maybe he and Elizabeth and Jill all three could live together-- a menage a trois.
.
Elizabeth was sitting beside him on the bed polishing her nails and caught his dreamy, out-of-space look.
"What are you thinking about?" she asked.
"Nothing. Except that picket fenced house we walked past earlier ,the couple swinging on their porch, the young guy with the white cat draped around his neck like a fluffy muffler, his girl or whoever she was, looking out onto the perfectly mowed green lawn as if she were lost in a Chopin ballade. I yearn for that kind of truce with life."
"Oh Tad honey you're so idealistic. Maybe it was nothing like that at all.Maybe it was just your imagination."
He felt something slide away at that moment. He looked at Elizabeth, then thought of Jill. It kept sliding away.
But as a song says ;"Love is funny or it's sad, or it's quiet or it's mad, it's a good thing or it's bad, but beautiful."
but beauful".
