Three Powerful Words

A loosely exclaimed & simple phrase of I love you
Three powerful words that are so often misused
And frequently confused with plain old sexual lust
Matters of the heart are sometimes hard to trust

So what's the defining thing that separates the two
Is it when they're still around when the sex is through
What's the exponential factor between it and infatuation
Could it be when you enjoy their time without penetration

This equation has baffled its fair share of inquiring people
Emotions are tricky and you shouldn't let them control you
But many of times passionate feelings can cloud our minds
Although true unconditional heartfelt love is difficult to find

Man I ain't lying and if you think I am then show some proof
This is my assessment of it all and I'm not trying to be aloof
I'm a student of the game and have seen an array of things
And have suffered my own grievous heartaches and pains
