The wanting

It's been a year since the accident happened, one wet and dark Holloween
Two lovers driving fast and laughing, music loud
Yelling lyrics and having fun, they sing
They say some animal ran out
Skidding off of the road, they missed it
Propelled through the brush, the car twisted
Finally crashing into a tree with the hood crinkled and lifted
She sat still buckled in
Looked to the left at her friend
Something big grabbed him
She heard a cry, but couldn't see clear
Blood in her eyes mixed with tears
The last time she ever saw him
Its been a year

She gets dressed and puts on her makeup
Slides on her shoes and heads out to the day
Trying to work her hardest as she approves the invoices and approves pay
Trying to dodge memories of what happened a year ago today

She was invited out to a party by some friends leaving the conference room
There was to be a bon fire beneath tonight's big moon
She didn't drive by herself due to the memories that had her comsumed
One of the ladies said she would pick her up, she had plenty of room

How she dresses in the mirror
Her pale skin and lacey white
Flowing red hair down her back
Shimmering eyes of green
Looking herself over twice

Her phone rings, its her ride
She grabs her keys and goes outside
Memories come flowing as they head to the event in a field
Flashbacks began to enter her mind as they drive the dark roads and hills
They arrive
The panic goes away
She relaxes, alive

The night was so much fun
People in masks dancing around the fire
Drinks, laughter and one big moon
Soon it will be time to retire

Dizzy from her last drink, she sat on a log next to the flames
A faint whisper caught her attention
Someone was calling her name
She looked around, stood up
Knowing that familiar tone
Not realizing until she snapped to that everyone was gone
That voice, those eyes
She sees, she runs
Faster
Faster
Until she runs him down
She yells his name
He turns around
Expecting to see the love she had lost
The man holding her dreams
Instead sees teeth and claws
Fangs dripping
She screams

Closer it comes
Branches and leaves muffle the heavy steps
One by one until he is breathing in her breath
Frozen, she stands there having nothing left
She feels it....the claws rip open her chest
She reaches out and rubs her hands gently across his ears as his nose enters first, chest spread apart
Looking into his eyes as he begins to devour her heart
She looks up at the moon then back at the reflection of shiny moonlight teeth
She let go
Bloody angel
Spread wide and laid to sleep

I hid
Stayed quiet
Saw her rise to her feet
Kiss him on the head and disappear into the night with that beast

A new addition to our scene
Not bad for the new killer
We'll all be here next Holloween
