Autumn Storm

A distant roll of thunder
Echoing across the night
The scent of rain fills the air
Bracing for a streak of light

 Stillness for the moment
Cascading twilight sprawls
Reaching across the bronze sky
While billowing clouds give call

The heavy air is sinking
Desperately seeking the ground
Electrifying jolts of fire
Gives the night a desolate sound

Foreshadow of what’s ahead
A gathering fury on the horizon
A sense of panic dwells within
Creating a paralyzing silence

Just before the flood gate opens
A single drop of water falls
Unleashing a torrent of blinding rain
An Autumn storm lives within us all
