Oh Mr. Gandhi
Oh Mr. Gandhi
Are you really a secular saint?
An icon of non violent struggle
Should you really be so revered?
Did you often lie down with young girls?
What else did you do with these children?
Just lie down like the prince of pop did
Is there more yet to be revealed?
From a cover up or a very secret history
Do we finally find out what you were about?
Did you marry Kasturba when she was 14?
Oh Mrs. Gandhi
What happened to you, the child bride?
What happened when you went to prison?
When you became really ill
When British doctors tried to save you
And Mr. Gandhi said no to British medicine
And you died of Bronchopneumonia
On the orders of religious denial
Uttered forcefully by your husband
Oh Mr. Gandhi
what did you do in prison?
After being brave with your wife’s life
You too became very ill months later
And those same British doctors came
With that same British medicine
The same that you refused for your wife
They expected you to refuse as well
But you didn’t; you saved your own life
Regardless of your stated beliefs
Some say you saved yourself
For the greater good of your cause
Mother India needed you alive
And that may be true: but there can
Be no justification sacrificing your wife
In the callous way that you did
Is this all a conspiracy theory
Or is this the truth of your character
An icon, a secular saint,
Saviour of Mother India or
A killer of an Indian Mother
The mother of your children
Were you being the change?
Or are you both saviour and killer?
