Angels
I've thought angels to be overrated
Something for lonely hearts to believe in
A distraction for lack of hope
And for weary thoughts to imagine
But I've crossed paths with an angel
And changed direction to admire her
With amazement that I could witness her beauty
And that she didn't doubt mine
She took my fragile heart
Her careful hands trembling
Like she was questioning her worth
When, really, it should've been me
This angel trusted me with her presence
And later on, her love
A terrifying responsibility
But I couldn't deny I loved her
I promised to us, loyalty
And swore to show my value
She promised to us, protection
And swore to keep me safe
I've thought angels to be overrated
Something for broken hearts to believe in
But I've fallen for an angel
Who is as true as they come
Something for lonely hearts to believe in
A distraction for lack of hope
And for weary thoughts to imagine
But I've crossed paths with an angel
And changed direction to admire her
With amazement that I could witness her beauty
And that she didn't doubt mine
She took my fragile heart
Her careful hands trembling
Like she was questioning her worth
When, really, it should've been me
This angel trusted me with her presence
And later on, her love
A terrifying responsibility
But I couldn't deny I loved her
I promised to us, loyalty
And swore to show my value
She promised to us, protection
And swore to keep me safe
I've thought angels to be overrated
Something for broken hearts to believe in
But I've fallen for an angel
Who is as true as they come
