A Humble Plea
They want us all to recite a song that celebrates our demise
It doesn't make a difference that you've removed a few lines
The origin doesn't change a bit just cause you chose to hide
A stanza from the chorus that the composer sang with pride
No refuge could save the hireling and the slave
From the terror of flight or the gloom of the grave
How can you expect us to learn of this and still feel the same
For you to feel that way leads me to think that you're insane
Singing about the land of the free while imprisoned disproportionately
Taking a knee for what we believe is courageously protesting defiantly
If you want unity and patriotism then you should create a new anthem
If you're honestly seeking a solution to this confusion then that's an answer
It would be a sincere humane gesture that you're willing to do your part
To attempt to unify and show that you recognize things are falling apart
Show that we are all inclusive in the symbolic meaning of the flag
Instead of causing it to be perceived as a red, white and blue rag
Make it crystal clear that you hear that we feel that you don't care
By doing everything within your power to eradicate the hate out here
Hold accountable these police who are frequently killing us in these streets
Without repercussions what's going to stop them from bringing the white sheets
The ones to cover up the deceased as well as the ones used to disturb the peace
By the K times three that hates me due to their delusional superiority they perceive
Convince us that it does indeed matter too when our blood splatters undoubtedly
It's only but so much longer that we can humbly plead for a semblance of civility
