immortality brings infinite pain

Immortality brings infinite pain
Death brings relief to life
with her delicate touch
Gifting the body with escape
from a cage made of old age
Imprisoned by failing organs
and broken woken dreams
Who has such happiness
they would want to stay alive?
Let me steal that scene for one day,
just in case there is an after-life
that survives beyond the box and tomb
Is eternal awareness, conscious immortality?
To exist forever unable to touch beauty
Is no different than the nightmare
God enslaved my spirit in
This eternity of loneliness I long to end
Choosing to live internally as poetry
For as long as my verse can survive decay
As long as tablet screens
can display the essence of me
Then upon my cellular demise
Let my soul rest in rhyme eternally
