Outside time
another world
a hiding space
through a door
its humdrum
the “Dickens”
a place
soft and lilting
the duke box plays
who wrestled life?
big hearted
old boxers
who lost everything
but truth and a fear
that a pint soothes
days loll along
into nights
with scarecrows
dancing
to the sound of sweetly
mumbled affections…
