My Shoes
Walk a mile in my shoes they say, well let me tell you my friend
You can walk and walk, and still not reach the end
You see, the life I’ve lived has been rough, seemingly an endless journey and always tough
My leathered shoes have been many miles, mostly dark mixed with few smiles
They have taken me to many places, seen the sad and tattered faces
Sometimes they are my friend, but it seems, it starts all over again
They creak and squeak the older I get, still they haven’t stopped yet
You see, my shoes are not just my feet, they cover my bones like spoiled meat
My shoes were happy one time, laughing and joyful, like a chilled glass of wine.
What happened I cannot say, they just took everything I had away
As worn as they may be, they still are a huge part of me
I wouldn’t trade them for your shiny pieces of leather, we just couldn’t be good together
I’ll keep my old shoes until they completely wear out, only then will I know why, and what it was all about.
You can walk and walk, and still not reach the end
You see, the life I’ve lived has been rough, seemingly an endless journey and always tough
My leathered shoes have been many miles, mostly dark mixed with few smiles
They have taken me to many places, seen the sad and tattered faces
