Balloons
Look up, watch them fly
An array of colors and shapes
They are products of someone or something
Some are bought, some are given
These are balloons we carry
You cannot pop them
You cannot stop them
We are bound to them with fear
Their volume increasing and expanding
As our fists clench tighter to the string
The air, unbreathable, heavy
But filling our balloons
Raising them higher, draining us out
We appear to be leaking
Soon we'll be empty
All the hurt, the stupid, the negativities
Manifesting themselves inside
A toxic air we cannot breathe
Our balloons, they're growing
But we won't release
Some balloons, they shouldn't be
Given to us, a burden, most heavy
We need healing, we need to fly
If only to set them free
If only to let go of these things
My balloon, high above my head
killing me as I feed it more
But this anger, this hate, this unforgiveness
Keeping me from opening my hand
Keeping me from escaping
