Solitude
I am a seeker on the road to truth
Don’t give me any cave revelations
Or dusty books to guide my way
I am a survivor of the constant
Shitstorms
That fly my way
Life was never meant to be fair
For better or for worse
The universe is neutral
There are no morals imbedded in the
Stars
They soar, they burn, they exist
Looking out our window
The winter brings whitened trees
The summer, peaceful green giants
Hovering in mid-air, under a
Blue and cloud-streaked sky
The years speed by
I have failed so far to catch them
Any one of them
By the tail
I can accept that
Indeed, I don’t have a choice
And I can laugh
Because I’m still alive
And cry
Because some loved ones and friends
Have been launched elsewhere
The clock never stands still
Unless it’s broken
Or a battery has failed
Time is merciless
It marches on
Whether you plead with it or
Not
Accepting this fact
Can save you a lot
Of extra grey hairs
And forehead wrinkles
Flowing with the unstoppable
River of Mother Chronology
Can lower your blood pressure
And help you enjoy
Another day on our fair planet
Our existence is a constant battle
Between laziness & diligence
Organisation & mess
Cruelty & kindness
Wisdom & idiocy
I am always amazed
At things I see
A storm blowing in from the south
A news report of some political scandal
An announcement of separation, marriage,
Moving or pregnancy
A wild animal daring to
Cross a soccer field
At the local park
Today is my lucky day
Though I don’t believe in luck
Today is my victory day
For one simple reason:
I am alive
And I choose to do
My best
The world can ask
Nothing more of me
And this is the source
Of my permanent smile
Join me if you can
We’ll make a movement
We’ll spread all over
Like ants on a sidewalk
The generation under us
Will thus find
An example to emulate
The generation from before
Can watch us
From the park bench
Or the heavens
And we ourselves
Can pat ourselves on the backs
In front of the bathroom mirror
Don’t give me any cave revelations
Or dusty books to guide my way
I am a survivor of the constant
Shitstorms
That fly my way
Life was never meant to be fair
For better or for worse
The universe is neutral
