False Illusion
I saw you and cared for you when you said
Nobody else did. Maybe my good heart
Saw your true potential because instead
Of running away, I stood and was a part
Of your world. I was the rock that held
You steady. I should have been smart
Enough to walk away. My head yelled
At me that none of this was feeling right.
You never changed and I felt compelled
To stay, even if I should have taken flight
Instead. I chose to not listen to those
Around me, although they knew the night
Was coming. I was wrong when I chose
To believe you and I cannot get roped
Back in. I cannot cave in. Your clothes
Kept coming off, but I should have hoped
And prayed for something or someone
Else because I was only getting doped
On a false illusion. Even with the gun
Half empty, I should have seen it coming.
I stopped trying a long time ago to outrun
The truth and every promise. The numbing
Sensation will be eventually be over and I will
Be back to life while I continue strumming.
Nobody else did. Maybe my good heart
Saw your true potential because instead
Of running away, I stood and was a part
Of your world. I was the rock that held
You steady. I should have been smart
Enough to walk away. My head yelled
At me that none of this was feeling right.
You never changed and I felt compelled
To stay, even if I should have taken flight
Instead. I chose to not listen to those
Around me, although they knew the night
Was coming. I was wrong when I chose
To believe you and I cannot get roped
Back in. I cannot cave in. Your clothes
Kept coming off, but I should have hoped
And prayed for something or someone
Else because I was only getting doped
On a false illusion. Even with the gun
Half empty, I should have seen it coming.
I stopped trying a long time ago to outrun
The truth and every promise. The numbing
Sensation will be eventually be over and I will
Be back to life while I continue strumming.
