Double Agent

I’m a double agent.
Living the realities of both worlds,
Trapped between my day job,
And the world of night.
Yes, it’s a web of lies,
but it’s all about staying alive,
On both sides of the fence.
A different side of the story,
Depending on where I’m standing.
It’s not about lying,
or telling the truth,
for there’s a certain truth
In no matter which story I tell.
Yeah, for starters
It’s about not getting into trouble,
and avoiding punishment.
Of course, not wanting to get caught
Is the initial purpose of a double agent.
But that serves the primary goal,
Which is to fulfill the mission,
At any costs necessary.
Yes, at first I was loyal to one side.
But now I serve both sides,
And without question,
my allegiance goes to both.
I owe my life and my heart
to both sides.
Yet, I would never tell either side that.
To each side,  they are the one, the only
For which I would gladly
give my life defending.
Yes I lie,
if you mean not telling the whole truth.
But I am always true to my story and my word.
I weave these webs of lies and half-truths,
Not only as my defense,
But as my tactics to fulfill my mission,
And keep my secret identity safe
Hiding and subterfuge are my skills
I am who I want to be,
for my given situation
This is the life of a double agent,
walking the fence between truth and lies,
friends and enemies, light and shadows,
Living two lives in one,
Secretive to the Core,
Yet true to myself.
But, it’s all about staying alive,
On both sides of the fence.
