Image for the poem Waiting

Waiting

In soft white shadows, a person longs for
Another person who is not there.
Whom they would give almost anything at that
Moment to appear before them, take them
Warm and safe into their arms. For that person
Quietly longing, that person who feels as if
They would sell their soul to have that one
Particular person they crave with them, they
Yearn madly for that particular one inches away
From them, to gaze upon their flesh, to
Experience them in every sense of feeling.
For that person lost in soft white folds of a starving
Gauzy desperation, only the face of that one
Particular person will do. There is no other,
There is no substitute. And what is truly sad,
Somewhere, in another different space
Of soft white gauzy shadows and the most
Horrible unanswered prayers, another
Completely different suffering person
Waits in quiet desperate longing for only them.
