The Wrong Man

There is a knock at my door
I wonder who it might be
I’m not expecting anyone
Not the stranger that I see

It is an angry man
And he is angry only with me
He says I stole his wife
And I just wonder who he could be

I haven’t been out of the house
I haven’t stolen any wives
I haven’t wronged this man
He wants to end my life

There’s been a miscommunication somehow
He’s got the wrong man at the wrong door
But he just puts his hand in his pocket then
He’s got a load of lead  in there for me

Talk fast
Tell him just how wrong he is
Talk quick
Try to explain the fact that I’m innocent
Talk soft
Don’t want to make him blow
But just talk to him
Because I don’t want to go

He tells me her name and I almost smile
A smile is something that he don’t want to see
I tell him he is oh so wrong
Because he stole that girl from me

He got the address wrong
He’s looking at the wrong damn guy
He went out looking for revenge
And ends up at my door instead

He got the victim wrong
But I remember him now instead
And I just smile since she’s just doing what she does
Moving on and up to someone else instead

I close my door and laugh as he cries
