Alcohol
It felt like fire in
The back of my throat.
That night when you
Called me at 4 am just to
Say “hey”.
The whiskey dripped down
Off your lips and stung as it
Followed your tongue.
I didn’t say anything because
It had been so long since the
Last time I felt your lips.
I didn’t care that you had been
Drinking and that you probably
Wouldn’t remember me the next
Day.
I didn’t care that your hair was a mess
Because so was my life.
I didn’t care that you had lipstick
On your collar from the girl you called
Before me.
I didn’t care because I didn’t
have the strength to.
I didn’t mind being used for the night.
I didn’t mind the alcohol on your breath
That was now mine.
I didn’t mind because you liked it
And frankly
So did I.
The back of my throat.
That night when you
Called me at 4 am just to
Say “hey”.
The whiskey dripped down
Off your lips and stung as it
Followed your tongue.
I didn’t say anything because
It had been so long since the
Last time I felt your lips.
I didn’t care that you had been
Drinking and that you probably
Wouldn’t remember me the next
Day.
I didn’t care that your hair was a mess
Because so was my life.
I didn’t care that you had lipstick
On your collar from the girl you called
Before me.
I didn’t care because I didn’t
have the strength to.
I didn’t mind being used for the night.
I didn’t mind the alcohol on your breath
That was now mine.
I didn’t mind because you liked it
And frankly
So did I.
