Want vs Need

As left over materials dispel
From the items so long contained
I feel a sense of freedom
Touch my aching bones
Finally I can breathe
Just a little easier
Instead of catching breath
Only when I had strength to fight for it
The difference between want and need
Is that strong wants may plague us
But a pressing need will hold you down
Release is essential
Needs never go unfelt
They only go untouched
And if there's a chance to gain fulfillment
We must try to move in that direction
Yes, people can reject our requests
Choose to leave us hanging to die
Others can call us names
But how can we know if we don't try?
When your life is on the line
Heart and mind evaporating before your eyes
It is worth attempting to save yourself
No matter what anyone thinks or says about it
Taking action is simpler when needs can be achieved solo
But waters get murky when resolution is dependent on another
Still, we must walk down the path hoping for human decency
Any greeting of warmth beyond that is a stroke of luck

In life, there will be needs that go missed
By people who can't see what you're requesting
There are those that will get dismissed
By people who don't care about investing
Some needs will be intuited
And tended to by loving souls
Some people will want to give to you
All you could seek in more
Some people won't be capable
Others will never make the effort
Some won't give all, but might give enough
And you can make something out of enough
So even with unpredictability and no guarantees
We cannot leave ourselves to sway day and night
Rotting in anxiety and self destruction
At fear of what someone might do with our fragile state
When the gut knows the answer to alleviation
We can't question what it's saying
We need to try, for us
For not doing so is a greater cost

Wants are intense desires you can live with unfilled
But a life with dire needs... that can get you killed
Important to learn the difference
And to not be afraid to acknowledge one from the other
