butterfly
My heart fluttered to you
like a newborn butterfly
Tenderly I circled you
till you plucked me from the sky
My wings shuddered
and I fell to the ground
Your sweet intentions
maimed me for life

the imagery here is in two very definite opposite camps, it opens on a deeply optimistic note, with the image of a newborn butterfly evoking a sense of innocence and childish play, which is then cut short by the word 'plucked' even the sound of 'plucked' when said is an aggressive sound, the /ck/ phoneme gives the word an almost violent expressiveness. The rhyme scheme variation between the verses adds to that, one reads the first verse, expecting the same flow in the second, but instead it is cut, emphasising the shock of the wounded butterfly. - an excellent piece :)
