Forever with this curse - zombie poem

My mortal soul is hollow
Fresh blood is hard to swallow
The taste of iron runs down my throat
But there is always tomorrow

I put the handgun down
But not without a frown
What could've should've been
Lies deep under the ground

The depressing thoughts are quicker
Than my alcohol doused liver
I go back to sleep in the study
And dream I didn't pull the trigger

I awoke six feet deep
From this eternal sleep
Bound to this hell forever
I begin to weep

This ancient dark world
A nightmare for my soul
Suddenly the door opens wide!
And smiling sly with pride

I crawl out of the grave
Towards the moonlight!
Into the night!
A second chance at life!

My stomach roars with hunger
From those long years spent under
But food doesn't taste the same
My brain longs for something other

The flesh of a human being!
A delicacy I'm needing
I find one... Tie her up
And then begin my feeding

Halfway through she awakens
I can hardly hear her saying
"I brought you back from hell
Locked in your human sized cell...
Longing for what once was...
Because... I loved you"

Her final agonal breath
The sound before her death
Trails away through the sky
Then all I hear is silence

Back I crawl to my grave
Feeling more and more ashamed
The woman I once loved...gone
I even ate her brain

But then I spot another
Cannot stop the hunger
My bite pierced the babies skin
And then came up his brother

His brother holds me down
Drags me into his small town
They stabbed, shot, poked and prodded
But I am still around

Doomed to walk this earth
Forever with this curse
Until they find a way
To put me back in the dirt
