AIR

(a sonnet - second in a series)

Twin hawks that circle high in morning sun
With wings widespread on hunger’s mounting need
They glide on rising heat of thermals run
And long for muscles’ gush on which they feed

From there above they find their target’s spot
The subtle movement brings their lusts’ increase
To dive and rise and dive again ‘til’s brought
The taste of life force flow in sweet release

Their mouths so seeking take and take again
As their hot prey succumbs to every blow
To give up every drop their body's send
So hunter/hunted small deaths come to know

To both return now sated to their nests
‘Til hunger’s need once more disturbs their rests
