Eating Melons

We sat there
We sat, in the poorly lit parlor
Biting deep
Fleshy cuts of watery melons
Eating together is sweetest

We sat eating melons
I took glance of him
Casting down thoughts on my mind
His embroidered gown
Have many voids to fill

He’d been oddly quite
With faraway looks
Often lost in thoughts
As if he knew
The medic’s test results

Munching off our shared melons
I cheered him off his reverie
He is full of lovely memories
And insights into many grey areas
Reminiscences never will elude of me

He swallowed of his melons
Burying concerns eating him within
The growth in his belly is malignant!
Lively strength is ebbing out
Da is dying gradually

We shared many more melons
Till surgery time be ripe
He’s engulfed in silent stares
Full in foretelling talks
Praying the nights from inner pains

We strove, not eating melons
And theatrics took its place
I AM is the master healer
“He could use thy hand” he said
Braving surgery, we welcomed recovery

Back home, unexpected happened
Dad‘s at infirmary again!
Falling in-depth silence, incoherence
Till on a prayerful evening
He left to eat melons no more

** Dedicated to all that struggled with the stings of adenoma carcinoma
I know there will be joy over it someday!!
