Sunset Lotus
the room engulfs in sun’s emerald fire
descends to remain as lamp’s amber flame
with onyx strokes my reisho reclaims her
heart opened by my brush’s drifting lines
eight-petal scents extend night wind’s embrace
a blossoming grace, a lotus flower
my mat on its acacia wood beckons
unveiled Akimitzu washed in stars’ breath
reveal her words to Moon’s slow autumn pace
Author's Note: in Japanese, "reisho" is the name for clerical calligraphy script. Akimitzu is a given name meaning "spirit light."
