Sweet grits

Today's the day
I'll get what I crave
Sweet grits and to share a booth
With the girl of my dreams

I'm going to smile
Pretend that I don't care
That you're not mine to hold
I'm going to laugh
Remember the good times
And make a new memory to cherish

I wonder what you're hairs like
And if I could at least get a hug
I don't care if this is the last time we ever meet
Or if we're meant to be
I just want my sweet grits
And maybe sneak you a kiss
On your cheek, not your lips
Cause I am a gentleman
I don't want an affair
I just want you to know I care

Today's the day and I say
Sugar please make my grits
Like when we used to hold hands
And act like kids
Forget about that other guy for just an hour
And let me tell you my plans for the future
And how I've always wanted you in it
I'd be lying if I didn't say I still loved you
And wanted you to leave him
But I'm torn in two
Because I respect the man
Since he cares for you too
I've always wanted you to be happy
Because I love your smile
And the lips I once kissed
And I don't want tears in your eyes
Unless they're from happiness
So let's forget the past
Even for just a moment
And pretend I wasn't who I am
With all my flaws and weaknesses
Because the truth is my greatest weakness
Has always been my love for you
Now let's eat some sweet grits
