Boys
hanging with the
neighborhood boys
drinking too much beer
vying for her attention
whispering in her ear
one of them can't get her
name right,
talks too much, too fast
he still lives with his momma,
not sure how much longer
that will last
they joke of past relationships
and hearts still on the mend
they have a completely different perspective
from where her heart has been
they find her shy and pensive
and wonder about her too much,
they get too close for comfort
hoping for a touch
they head inside to converse
about what's left inside to drink
she takes it as a good moment
to slip away and think
about what she's doing
hanging out with the guys,
who smile and assure her
they've got things that can surprise
now it's close to midnight
and a knock comes at her door
she doesn't get up to answer it
cause it's one who's looking to score
he doesn't leave too quickly
sees his shadow, hears him groan,
he walks away very slowly....
another night alone
neighborhood boys
drinking too much beer
vying for her attention
whispering in her ear
one of them can't get her
name right,
talks too much, too fast
he still lives with his momma,
not sure how much longer
