Under The Clouds
Black clouds scudding by are hiding the upper floors of the tall buildings
As the rain falls in monstrous drops on my head
People run for cover from rain in a race they have no chance of winning
Getting soaking wet along their quickened path
And curse the sky for being the sky
I walk in no hurry through the heavy rain and cry
The tears of the broken hearted and torn
But the rain cannot hide the hitching of my chest as I weep
Nor the sounds I try to hide inside myself
Failing miserably in my efforts
The running people pay me no heed as they curse
And I curse the heart for being the heart
So open to false love and easily tricked
I wonder how long I will be the fool who cries in the rain
For the lies of someone else that I so easily believed
And know that there is no answer to a question so often asked
As I stare at the scudding clouds as they wash some tears from my face
And cry more for the sky to wash away
As I weep in the way of the broken hearted
