The New World

It’s rainy and warm on Toronto’s January day
Six degrees if you go by the Celsius way
And I wonder when the snow will fly and land up this way
I believe in the warming that they warn in the news every day
Soon enough I will have a brand new beachfront home
As New York goes for a swim from the melt north of Nome
California is drying to dust just as dry as a bone
And I wonder what happens when no food grows for home
It’s a third world coming for those left in it all
And China will own most of us when we fall
But the stacks still just pour out the shit with no change at all
And the kids of the kids will be born to inherit it all
Such a change for our world that we all know is coming
Nowhere left on the planet for us left to be running
Still people will go to the beach in the sun that is burning
And sit and grow cancer about which soon they’ll be learning
I find that I’m glad I’ll be dead when it’s here
No suffering left for my family to bear
It’s a sad thing to be happy that you will be gone
But the new world that is rolling around to be born
Is something I know that I don’t want to be on
