Eleven years ago, Coffs Harbour New South Wales,
torrential rain the skies opened up
and covered the place with hail
I was in labour - he was drunk
the alcohol was more important than our health.
So I decided I'd drive myself
sitting in the car, contractions 3 minutes apart
the rain was not letting up, it was dark
and the streets were starting to flood
although this pregnancy was number four
I was scared but relieved when
he opened the door, he drove me to
the hospital drunk again
dropped me in the carpark, pouring rain
I staggered between contractions
gritting my teeth, my breathing strained
finally got to the hospital doors
soaking wet, doubled over in pain
people just stopped starring at my disaray
two hours later you came,
9.5 pound beautiful baby girl 🎈
