While She Sleeps
As she sleeps so peacefully,
I watch for any sign.
That she too may have another
on her mind.
She smiles so suddenly,
I am caught by surprise.
Is she dreaming of another?
Can she see him in her mind's eye?
She moves, she moans, and she speaks in inaudible tones.
I know the very nature and sound of those groans.
Words, sounds, and giggles they
all seem so absurd.
I watch and wait to hear some coherent word.
She reaches towards me and whispers, what do you want my love?
I begin to answer, but then realize she is looking above.
Then I hear what I have been waiting for, the short panting of breath, the deep exhale.
The tensing of her body, the scratching of her nails.
She begs, and she pleads for so much more, then her body shutters in sheer delight:; screams of passion fill the night.
I hear her scream his name, so familiar, always the same.
It is my name.
It was my own guilt that drove my suspicions, she has always been true to me.
I alone stand Guilty,
with my thoughts of you and me.
