Just Write
I’d been looking at a blank page
For what felt like and age
And then – Nothing happened
I wrote lists of words
That flew away like birds
I was left again with nothing
I read many others poetry
Some unknown, others known globally
Still I sit with nothing;
I need some kind of inspiration
Some form of mental stimulation
Just say fuck the punctuation
It’s only ever a complication
A school learned obligation
Just write!
I don’t need further vexation
From more word starvation
Or writers cramp frustration
And blank page aggravation
A blockage due to procrastination
I’m needing mental gyration
And senses stimulation
A fixation on dictation
And descriptive observation
Through thoughtful contemplation
To fulfil my aspiration
To just write!
I need a new sensation
An attitude modification
A simple thought activation
A needful deliberate application
A pen to paper resuscitation
Mind and hand coordination
Loaded with self determination
Curing my current hibernation
And brain freeze stagnation
And without alcoholic libation
I need the motivation
To just write!
I want mental provocation
An allocation of speculation
Inspiration becoming a revelation
Cultivation with no reservation
Imagination without limitation
Innovation without hesitation
Inclination without dissipation
Dedication without fluctuation
Exhilaration without constipation
And a culmination of this publication
I’ve just written
Fuck! that was hard work
For what felt like and age
And then – Nothing happened
I wrote lists of words
That flew away like birds
I was left again with nothing

I know how you feel David. I have 9 poems in progress in my saved draft folder that I really want to finish. I don't like to "just write" because if my heart ain't in it, it just comes out flat. I actually posted one of them last week, someone liked it and then after I went back and read it, pulled it down because it just didn't feel inspired. Just writing is good practice, but even when I was a weightlifting maniac 15 years ago, I had to take days off to recover. Too much writing can numb the mind. Sometimes just not writing for a day or two, or even a week or two. Something will spark an inspiration and the real thing will happen...

I actually write every day. A lot of what I write never makes it to a finished poem, but I do it as a discipline. Sometimes I take a day off but that's quite rare. It's horses for courses I suppose. :-)
thank you for taking the time to read and comment :-)
wishing you and yours a very merry Giftmas :-)

I absolutely loved this poem, it was quick, full of wit, and I found it relatable (and thus, funny).
This is a great piece of poetry: sound structure, and clever rhyme was fresh and unexpected.
Thank you for sharing your work.

That was fun and fresh and I'm sure that a whole lot of people on here can relate to it, myself included. Just look how many members we have and yet you always see the same names online. That's a lot of blocked writer's out there.
I hope it helped you get back into the groove.

thank you for such positive remarks. I think we all suffer blockages from time to time - i have various techniques that I use when I get brain freeze so happily for me it never lasts long. Your right of course, many people, especially on here will and do get writers block - for me I write my way out of it using prompts and others poetry, but not everyone can or would want to do that kind of thing :-)
Wishing you and yours a very merry Giftmas :-)

thank you, you are such a sweetheart and so kind :-)
I actually write every day, for me that's so important, sometimes i use word games and single line prompts and of course other peoples poetry. As you know I find your poetry very inspiring, it might be the whole poem or maybe just a single line or phrase, but there is always something there to get the juices flowing. So a big thank you for that.
try to write something different now and then, maybe a childrens poem or a funny one- I find that helps
Wishing you and yours a very merry Giftmas my dear friend :-)

it's great that this is all new to you - your poems so far are so accomplished, you write like you've been writing for years and I think I know why - it's because you really care passionately about what you write - try and never loose that :-)
P.s. - I prefer David to Mr Macleod - Mr Macleod is usually reserved for the IRS (lol) :-)
thank you so much for being so supportive this year, I hope we will continue to support each other on our poetic journeys in the new year :-)

Stop all that hogwash, your making me blush LoL. Your right, I am very passionate about what I write. I consider poetry an art form, always striving to my best! Thanks again David, ➰

Its amazing how the blank page inspired such a piece...its like the lack of inspiration became the inpiration...that ignigted the inked fire that stained your page..I've had this empty feeling before...like it had nothing to say but just stared at a blank page...nice write
