Affair

Incoming call. I hesitate, probably a wrong number. It goes to voice mail. No message. Definitely wrong number I decide. It comes again, spurs my curiousity.
"Hello?"
"Jamie?"
My whole body reacts, stomach contracts, pulse jumps, breathing speeds up, i feel a distinct hardening in my non thinking head.
"Tricia? Is that you? Whose number is this?"
"Mine, I bought a RICA-ed SIM down near Bellville station. I can't afford to be found out. Not yet."
I am dumbfounded, excited, guilty. I might as well be a sixteen year old boy flirting with the girl in the next desk.
"You must be careful. Please. I couldn't bear to think . . "
"Yes, but I want to see you. I must see you. I need you to hold me. I cannot go on like this."
I pause, my head balancing risk against desire. My body is ditching huge quantities of hormones into my blood stream and at the same time demanding to see Tricia again. My head is fighting a losing battle against the hormones.
"Jamie? You stil there? What is wrong."
"Nothing, nothing. And I need to see you, but, . . "
"But nothing, walk out of work, come on down the road and we can meet." her urgency is almost tactile, "I will make it worth your while."
I swallow hard. "Ok, five minutes. Same place?"
"Yes, same place." Her voice a purr sending me into a frenzy.
I log out of my machine, grab my phone and head for the door, using the steps as part of the ritual. She is ahead of me in the foyer walking, swaying, oozing in those tight pants, high heels and that long black hair. I am lost, I follow almost blindly out the doors and onto the pavement, she gets the traffic lights and heads across, still following blindly I start to cross. There is a sudden roar of a motor and I am hit by a massive force. The world slows and I have time to look at Tricia, turning to watch as I crash to the ground.
As the darkness gathers I hear her voice, "Naughty boy. You didn't think I would let you ruin my chances of promotion now did you?"
