Peace
A time when your spirit and soul
Are perfectly in tune
Not hard to to reminisce
Because memories like those
Are few and far between
I remember the times
When we used to sit
And eat breakfast
At a shitty Waffle House
Off Airport Road
We'd talk for hours
Connect on another level
I've never conversated before
Long before any physical contact
No more than maybe just a hug
I'd watch your lips
And dream of the first kiss
Yet it's funny how
I can't remember it
But I do ruminate
On the grits with sugar
How you'd make them perfectly sweet
Just like the words and compliments
That passed through your teeth
I'd have coffee, you juice
Me flirtatious just to watch
The corners of your mouth
Turn up in a twist
You were so cutely naive
Didn't even know Jim was a nickname
And hated the way I said Nay Nay
That's why we'd use our proper names
Which didn't bother me much
Too serious for pet names
Except the one I gave you
And I'm sure you remember it too
We shared so much more
Than food and good convo
All shyness went out the window
I found myself in you, and you in me too
We had true happiness
In not the love making
Or the heart taking
But in moments of tranquility
The dancing of our words
In lingo of the tongue
I miss only the music
Of laughter in my ears
The sound of a smile on your lips
The quips and tips, warmth in the air
Between us so sweet and fair
At a table in a commercial diner
Where for a short time
We forgot about our woes and cares
Venturing to go where few dared
Two completely different worlds
That brought us closer than skin touch
Or tangled stares
But where honesty rang true
And freedom bloomed
Like a fireball flower
Melting your soul
It's like a weeping candle
Illuminating the easier days
When the world seemed so simple
Yet grand in the same way
And I know without a doubt
I'll remember them always
Are perfectly in tune
Not hard to to reminisce
Because memories like those
Are few and far between
